Caraya 4-String Banjo Ukulele, Concert Size, Satin Finish w/Free gig bag SBJUK-118

Demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO6gQX4kqBg

The Banjo Ukulele is a four-stringed musical instrument with a small banjo-type body and a fretted ukulele neck.

The Instrument achieved its greatest popularity in the 1920s and '30s and combines the small scale, tuning, and playing style of a ukulele with the construction and distinctive tone of a banjo, hence the name. Its development was pushed by the need for vaudeville performers to have an instrument that played with the ease of the ukulele but with more volume.

Fantastic banjolele!

I received my Caraya banjolele today and am ragtiming on it right now. I’m a busily gigging musician on another instrument, and recently have been learning an (open back) banjolele for some fun. This Caraya is wonderful! Below are some impressions.

Forum searches suggested there might not be much difference between my open back and this. However, this Caraya resonator is much louder. It also has more banjo “twang” than the open back, which is softer and rounder in tone. Volume and twang are features which I sought both for themselves, and as a contrast to the instrument I already have, and this delivers.

Forum searches also suggested that the weight difference would be unpleasant, and while I’m yet to spend hours on this, it feels substantial and yet is not that weighty. If you’ve got neck problems then an open back is probably better, but I can think of other instruments utilising a strap which are much heavier.

The neck is thicker than my other banjolele. Despite other dimensions being the same, this feels much nicer for my male hands, which can feel more cramped on both my open back and standard ukulele. The thickness means that my hand feels more open, less claw-like.

In short, this is a aesthetically beautiful instrument to the eyes, and perfect to the ears for the ‘20s music I play. It is crazily cheap for the quality. Kookaburra posted it immediately and it arrived very quickly. I’m very happy with this thing of beauty.

1st off, I have never bought a guitar with better packaging! 2nd, it came from 1/2 way round the world and stayed in tune! The workmanship is incredible! It is smaller then I expected but it is just the right size to take with you anywhere but not sound like a travel guitar. Still cannot believe that I paid so little for so much! HIGHLY RECOMEND!
