The Evolution of Resonators – From Classic to Cutting Edge

Resonator guitars have a fascinating history, born in the 1920s to solve a simple problem: volume. Acoustic guitars struggled to be heard in big bands, so inventors developed resonators with metal cones to amplify the sound. These instruments became iconic in blues, country, and bluegrass for their loud, bright, metallic tone and unique sustain.

With the rise of electric guitars, resonators began to evolve. Today, models like the SDG80 blend the vintage charm of traditional resonators with modern electric components. The addition of humbucker pickups, lightweight materials, and ergonomic designs has transformed resonators into versatile, high-performance instruments. The SDG80 represents this evolution perfectly – it keeps the iconic resonator twang while delivering the power and flexibility of a modern electric guitar.
